Coroner Human remains found in Longview could take months to identify

first_imgLONGVIEW — It could take six or more months to identify the remains of a person found last week in Longview, Cowlitz County Coroner Tim Davidson said Friday. The remains were found by a surveyor for a construction project in a field near the intersection of California Way and Third Avenue.Since the remains are skeletal, Davidson said, they are being examined by an expert forensic anthropologist. After that, the coroner’s office will submit them to North Texas University for DNA testing, and the results of those tests will be compared against the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System database. All together, the process could take roughly six or more months, Davidson said.“Right now, this is gonna be a slow process,” Davidson said. “Unfortunately it’s not something that’s gonna happen overnight. I wish it could.”Longview police do not know if the remain’s cause of death was natural or criminal, and further updates will come from the Coroner’s Office, according to a LPD news release.Davidson said anyone with information about a missing person should notify law enforcement or the coroner’s office.
