The investment is a combination of primary capital and secondary purchases to acquire a significant minority stake in the company. Set up in 2004 by Bhaskar Rao, a renowned cardiothoracic surgeon, Hyderabad-based KIMS Hospitals now has seven multi-speciality hospitals across the region and a capacity of over 2,500 beds. “Given General Atlantic’s deep experience of investing in healthcare globally and its network of relationships across leading global healthcare institutions, we are confident that his new association will help KIMS Hospitals,” Bhaskar Rao, MD and CEO of KIMS Hospitals, said in a release issued here on Wednesday.According to Sandeep Naik, Managing Director and Head of India and the Asia-Pacific at General Atlantic, the combination of an acute shortage in quality healthcare infrastructure and a strong focus from the government to make quality healthcare more accessible are driving growth for corporate hospital networks.“We believe KIMS Hospitals is uniquely positioned to benefit from these trends,” he said. Centre aided Mehul Choksis escape CongressCentre aided Mehul Choksis escape Congress

first_imgeconomic offence COMMENT Gitanjali Gems Ltd India asks Antigua to detain Choksi following reports of his presence on island August 03, 2018 Mehul Choksi the ‘mastermind’ of PNB scam, says ED politics SHARE SHARE EMAIL RELATED Published on SHARE Citing a press statement by the Citizenship Investment Unit of Antigua and Barbuda, the Congress has alleged that the Ministry of External Affairs provided the ‘clean chit’ certificate for the controversial businessman Mehul Choksi’s citizenship of Antigua in May 2017 and aided his “escape” from India. In a statement, party’s media in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala said the Centre certified that there was ‘no adverse information’ against Choksi. He said complicity and connivance of the Narendra Modi government in the escape of ₹23,484-crore PNB scam accused has been exposed. He termed the press statement by Antigua’s Citizenship By Investment Unit (CIU) as shocking and added that the statement has lifted the cover from the “sins” committed by every organ of the Modi government – PMO, MEA, CBI and SEBI. “It also conclusively exposes the barrage of lies that Ministers in the Modi government were trying to plant in the mainstream media,” he added.Choksi left India on January 4, 2018 and was already a citizen of Antigua and Barbuda in November 2017, which gives him a visa-free access to travel around 132 nations, Surjewala claimed. “The Antigua’s Citizenship Investment Unit (CIU) also states that SEBI had also given ‘clean chit’ certificate to Choksi,” Surjewala said.He said international investigating agency Interpol gave clearance to Choksi as CBI/ED failed to get a warrant issued against him or provide the requisite evidence. “PMO, CBI, ED, SEBI, SFIO, Maharashtra and Gujarat governments deliberately ignored evidence of fraud and multiple complaints against Nirav Modi, Mehul Choksi from May 7, 2015,” he said.“Why did the Prime Minister not raise the issue of Antigua’s citizenship being granted to Choksi, during his meeting with Antigua PM, Gaston Browne in April 2018?” he asked. Congress dares BJP to dissolve its State govts for simultaneous pollsCongress dares

first_imgAugust 27, 2018 The Congress party has said that is ready to go for simultaneous polls provided the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) dissolves its governments in different States.Addressing presspersons in Mangaluru on Monday, Jaiveer Shergill, national media panellist of Congress, said: “Congress dares BJP to dissolve all the States and hold the election together. We are ready for it.”Terming ‘One nation one election’ as a ‘political lollipop’ by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President Amit Shah, Shergill said the Election Commission has discarded this idea. ‘One nation one election’ is against the basic idea of co-operative federalism, he said.BJP throws up the bogey of one nation one election the day dalit atrocity happens or the lynching happens. He alleged that the BJP uses this to divert the attention from important topics. If PM is such an advocate of ‘one nation one election’, BJP should dissolve governments in all the states and hold election, Shergill said.Alleging that the government has indulged in a large-scale scam in the purchase of Rafale fighter planes, he said the Congress party had demanded an inquiry by the Joint Parliamentary Committee in this matter. Till date, the government has not agreed upon this demand. There will be protests by Congress all over the country in this matter, he said.Congress will prove it to the nation that BJP is not a ‘corruption-free’ government, he said, adding that it is an ‘investigation-free’ government. Chhattisgarh CM expands Cabinet 9 MLAs inductedChhattisgarh CM expands Cabinet 9 MLAs

first_imgDecember 25, 2018 Published on government COMMENT Chhattisgarh SHAREcenter_img SHARE SHARE EMAIL Bhupesh Baghel (file photo). In a first expansion of his Cabinet, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Tuesday inducted nine MLAs, including a woman legislator, as ministers. With this, the strength of the Baghel-led Cabinet has gone up to 12.While the state Congress leaders hailed the Cabinet expansion for giving representation to leaders from all sections and regions, the opposition BJP said it showed “differences” within the ruling party.Governor Anandiben Patel administered the oath of office to the new ministers during a function held at the Police Parade Ground here.Senior Congress leader P L Punia, Chief Minister Baghel and other leaders were present on the occasion. Two other Congress legislators – T S Singh Deo and Tamradhwaj Sahu – had taken oath as ministers on December 17, after Baghel was sworn in as the chief minister. Those who took oath on Tuesday included Mohammad Akbar, Ravindra Choubey, Jaisingh Agrawal and Umesh Patel. Four-time MLA and former minister Akbar is the lone Muslim face in the Cabinet. He won the recently held state election by the highest margin of 59,284 votes against his BJP rival in Kawardha seat, the home town of former chief minister Raman Singh.Similarly, seven-time MLA Choubey is the lone member from the Brahmin community in the Cabinet.Ravindra Choubey, who won from Saja seat, had served as minister in the Ajit Jogi-led Congress government in Chhattisgarh (2000-2003) and was earlier also the leader of opposition in the state assembly (2008-2013).Second time MLA Umesh Patel, son of former state Congress chief Nandkumar Patel who was killed in the Maoist attack in Jhiram valley of Bastar in 2013, retained his Kharsia seat in the election.Jaisingh Agrawal was elected for the third consecutive time from Korba seat. Woman MLA Anila Bhedia, and Kawasi Lakhma and Premsai Singh Tekam were the tribal leaders inducted into the Cabinet.Tekam, who became MLA for the sixth time, defeated the previous BJP government’s home minister Ramsewak Paikra in Pratappur seat.Tekam had served as minister in the previous governments in Chhattisgarh and in erstwhile undivided Madhya Pradesh.Lakhma, a five-time MLA from Konta seat, is the party’s prominent tribal leader while Bhediya, wife of former IPS officer Ravindra Bhedia, has been elected for the second time from Daundi Lohara seat. State Congress’s working president and three-time MLA Shiv Kumar Dahariya and two-time MLA Guru Rudra Kumar, both belonging to the Scheduled Caste (SC) community, were also sworn in as ministers.Daharia won the Arang seat this time, while Guru Rudra Kumar, who hails from the Guru family of Satnami sect, largely followed by people of the schedule caste community, won from Ahiwara seat. Umesh Patel, 34, is the youngest member in the state Cabinet while Tamradhwaj Sahu, 69, is the eldest. All the ministers took oath in Hindi. The portfolios are yet to be announced. The Chhattisgarh cabinet can have 13 ministers at most, including the chief minister According to the party leaders, the remaining minister will also be finalised soon. State Congress communication wing head Shailesh Nitin Trivedi told PTI that after receiving a huge mandate, it was a challenging task for Chief Minister Baghel to select his ministers as several senior and experienced leaders have won. “But, he successfully met the challenge and formed a balanced Cabinet giving representation to leaders from all sections and regions,” he said. Though some senior leaders could not make it to the Cabinet, the party respects all of them and they will be given appropriate positions, Trivedi said. “Now we have the target to win all 11 Lok Sabha seats in the state in next year’s general elections,” he added. BJP spokesperson Sachchidanand Upasane said it was expected that senior leaders with administrative skills will be given berths in the Cabinet, but it seemed that the chief minister wanted to keep all the rights with him. “This Cabinet will function with the remote control in Baghel’s hands,” he said. Upasane claimed the Cabinet formation “clearly reflects differences among leaders within the ruling party” as all the sections were not properly covered in it. The Congress returned to power in the state after 15 years, dislodging the Raman Singh-led BJP government. The Congress bagged 68 of the total 90 seats in the Assembly, while the BJP won only 15 seats. COMMENTSlast_img read more

Engineering education to cost more in TelanganaEngineering education to cost more in

first_imgFrom this year engineering education will be costlier in Telangana by 15-20 per cent over the current fee structure. The Telangana Admission and Fee Regulation Committee (TAFRC) has allowed engineering colleges in the state to increase fee by 20 per cent if the existing fee is less than ₹50,000 and by 15 per cent if it is above ₹50,000. A final review of this decision is likely in the days to come. Final verdictMeanwhile, according to agency reports, the Supreme Court on Monday gave its final verdict stating that the decision of TAFRC will be final on the fee. This would render illegal the fee hikes private engineering colleges have done on their own, independent of the fee regulation committee. The issue of enhancement of fee had become a controversy as 81 colleges in the State had approached the court to increase and collect fee even before its the finalisation by the committee. However, two leading colleges in Hyderabad had obtained an interim order from the High Court and raised the fee to about ₹1.60 lakh per annum. This was challenged by the State Government in the Supreme Court. With Monday’s judgment, the present stalemate over the exercise of web-options by the students who qualified Emacet will end soon. The admission process is likely to commence any day now, according to official sources. July 01, 2019 Published on COMMENTS Telangana SHARE SHARE EMAIL COMMENT SHARE File photolast_img read more

(Photo: PTI)HIGHLIGHTSMumbai residents held protest against BMC for failing to trace the 18-month-old missing infantThe protest March began from the residence of Divyansh, which was led by his father Divyansh had slipped into an open drain outside his residence on Wednesday eveningLocal residents of Goregaon East on Saturday along with family members of the 18-month-old Divyansh Singh, who drowned in an open drain on Wednesday, staged a protest against the (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) for the civic body’s failure in tracing the missing infant. The protest March began from the residence of Divyansh, which was led by his father and family friend Shravan Tiwari. At the protest, residents shouted slogans against the civic body and complained about BMC’s incompetence in order to find the missing infant.Divyansh had slipped into an open drain outside his residence on Wednesday evening as Mumbai continued to witness heavy rains.Since then rescue efforts by the NDRF and BMC had been launched to find the baby boy.The rescue and search operation was carried out through the open drain leading to null in the radius of around 3 to 4 square kilometres, eventually leading to the creek, but did not yield any positive results. Finally, after the NDRF called off the search, BMC had also called off the search operation on Friday evening.Divyansh’s family, who were still praying for a miracle, expressed displeasure when they came to know that the civic body had called off the search operation. After repeated phone calls and messages, BMC officials on Saturday started digging drain upwards in which the kid had drowned.Several ducts and concrete slabs were removed but it didn’t help with any clue of the missing kid.By Saturday morning, a BMC team with an earthmover reached the spot and started removing the ducts and concrete slabs over the drain in upwards direction to look for the kid.A BMC official on the spot said that they were trying to see under the covered areas of drain suspecting that the kid might have gotten entangled in the cables passing from the drain. This attempt, too, was fruitless.Around 3:30 pm, locals led by Divyansh’s father Suraj and his friend Shravan Tiwari spearheaded a protest march to the BMC’s ward office in Goregaon west of the P South Ward.”We demand that the mayor of BMC should resign because it is their failure which has led to this incident. Since the past three days we waited that they will help and find the kid but they called off the operation,” said Shravan Tiwari, a family friend of Divyansh.”The ward officer never even bothered to meet us or visit the spot where the incident happened. We met her but the meeting has failed to provide anything concrete and the BMC officials have nothing to say. They should be punished and reprimanded for the shoddy job they do,” said Divyansh’s father Suraj.”We will continue our protest and agitate against the civic body’s lethargic attitude. I want justice for my child,” he added.Meanwhile, the police was yet to ascertain on what sections and against whom the FIR be registered as the infant’s body is yet to be found. Also, the CCTV the footage was being examined to see who was the person who had removed the concrete slab from the spot where the kid drowned.ALSO READ | Amit Shah directs officers to provide assistance to flood-affected statesALSO WATCH | Did this scooter fall into a rain-filled pothole’ in Mumbai? For the latest World Cup news, live scores and fixtures for World Cup 2019, log on to indiatoday.in/sports.
